Note: A trademarked translucent, white petroleum jelly first manufactured in 1870 by Robert Chesebrough, an English-born chemist. It is composed of a mixture of aliphatic hydrocarbons ranging from about C15 to C20; used as an ointment, lubricant, water repellent, release agent, and temporary adhesive. It is not recommended for contact with any art object.

Dutch ..... Merknaam voor een doorschijnende, witte petroleumgelei die voor het eerst gemaakt werd in 1870 door Robert Chesebrough, een Engels chemicus. Deze gelei bestaat uit een mengsel van alifatische koolwaterstoffen van ongeveer C15 tot C20, en wordt gebruikt als zalf, smeermiddel, waterafstotend middel, losmiddel en tijdelijk kleefmiddel. Het is niet aan te raden om Vaseline in aanraking te brengen met kunstobjecten.
