Note: Early gold-tooled bookbindings made in Venice and other locations in northern Italy. Stylized arabesques or a small trefoil leaf called an 'Aldine fleuron' often decorate the angles. Simple geometric strapwork or rectangular panels of gold fillets with the book's title or author's name stamped in the middle are typical decorations on these bindings.

| Dutch ..... Vroege met goud bewerkte boekbanden die in Venetië en andere plaatsen in Noord-Italië werden vervaardigd. De hoeken zijn vaak gedecoreerd met gestileerde arabesken of een kleine driepasvorm, een zogeheten 'Aldine-fleuron'. Kenmerkende decoraties voor deze banden zijn geometrische vlechtbandmotieven of rechthoekige panelen met gouden riemlijsten, met de titel van het boek of de naam van de schrijver in het midden gestempeld. |
| German ..... Früher goldbedruckter Bucheinband, der in Venedig und anderen Orten Norditaliens hergestellt wurde. Stilisierte Arabesken oder ein kleines Kleeblatt genannt 'Aldine fleuron' schmückt häufig die Ecken der Deckel. Einfache geometrische Beschläge oder rechteckige Goldeinlagen mit dem Titel des Buches oder dem Namen des Autors in der Mitte sind typische Dekorationen für diesen Einband. |
