Note: Large upright stones, arranged in the shape of a ship's plan, chiefly dating from the Iron and Viking Ages and found throughout Scandinavia. Sometimes containing one or more graves, it is believed that the stone serve as a funerary monument, perhaps to those lost at sea. It is also proposed that that alignment of the stones correspond to the rising and setting of the sun at the time of solstice. |

Dutch ..... Verzameling grote rechtopstaande stenen geplaatst in de vorm van een schip. Vooral aangelegd in het stenen tijdperk en de tijd van de Vikingen. Stenen schepen vindt men in heel Scandinavië. Soms bevatten ze een of meer graven. Men denkt dat ze grafmonumenten zijn, misschien voor mensen die op zee waren verdwenen. Ook is gesuggereerd dat de oriëntatie van de stenen moest overeenstemmen met de opkomende en ondergaande zon op de dag van de zonnewende. |
