Note: Species of small cherry tree native to much of Europe and southwest Asia, closely related to the wild cherry (P. avium) but having a fruit that is more acidic. Cultivated sour cherries were apparently selected from wild specimens from around the Caspian and Black Seas; they were popular in Persia and known to the Greeks by the 4th century BCE. The Romans introduced them into Britain by the 1st century CE. In Britain, their cultivation was popular in the time of Henry VIII; by 1640 over 20 named cultivars were recorded. English colonists to Massachusetts brought the sour cherry to America. |

Chinese (traditional) ..... 小型櫻桃樹之物種,原生於大部分的歐洲地區以及西南亞,與野生櫻桃(歐洲甜櫻桃)是近親,但果實較酸。種植的酸櫻桃顯然是選自裏海與黑海一帶的野生樣品;酸櫻桃在波斯相當常見,且在西元前四世紀前便已聞名於希臘,並西元第一世紀時,由羅馬人引進英國。在英國,酸櫻桃的栽種盛行於亨利八世在位期間;截至西元1640年,據記載已有超過20種已命名的培育品種。前往美國麻州的英國殖民者,則將酸櫻桃引進美國境內。 |
Dutch ..... Kleine kersenboom, inheems in een groot deel van Europa en Zuidwest-Azië, nauw verwant aan de wilde kers (P. avium) maar met een vrucht die zuurder is. Waarschijnlijk zijn gekweekte zure kersen geselecteerd uit wilde bomen die voorkwamen in de gebieden rond de Kaspische Zee en de Zwarte Zee. Ze waren populair in Perzië en in de vierde eeuw v.Chr. al bekend bij de oude Grieken. In de eerste eeuw n.Chr introduceerden de Romeinen ze in Groot-Brittannië. Daar werden ze vooral in de tijd van Hendrik VIII populair. In 1640 waren er 20 geregistreerde cultivars van de bomen. Engelse kolonisten die zich in Massachusetts vestigden namen de zure kers mee naar Amerika. |
