Note: Species of small deciduous tree native to the Middle East and South Asia, widely cultivated in Europe, east Africa and California. The fruit and oil from the sweet almond variety are used for food while the oil from the bitter almond variety is used for flavoring. Botanically, the fruit of the almond is not a true nut, but a drupe, consisting of an outer hull and a hard shell with the edible seed inside. Although the tree is grown commercially for its fruit and oils, the wood is also used. The water soluble gum that exudes from wounds on the tree has been mentioned as a watercolor binder. Almond trees are closely related to cherry trees.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 原生於中東與南亞的小型落葉喬木物種，在歐洲、東非、與美國加州均廣為種植。各品種甜杏仁的果實與油可作為食用，而各品種苦杏仁的油則可用於調味。此種杏的果實並非真正的堅果，而是核果，核果是由外層的殼莢、以及包覆可食用種子的硬質果殼所組成。雖然這種喬木在商業上是為取得果實與油而種植，但其木材也有被使用。由樹的創口處滲出的水溶性樹膠，曾記載可作為水彩的黏結劑。巴旦杏與櫻桃樹是很近的親屬。 |
