Note: Species of medium-sized tree native to North America, having bright green elm-like leaves with three prominent veins arising from the base of the blade, and edible pea-sized purplish-black fruits attractive to birds. The bark is sometimes covered with wartlike bumps. It is easily cultured and common as a street tree, attaining heights of 12-30 meters (40-100 feet). |

Dutch ..... Middelgrote boomsoort die inheems is in Noord-Amerika. De boom kan 12 tot 30 meter hoog worden en heeft heldergroene, iepachtige bladeren met drie opvallende nerven vanuit het begin van de blaadjes. De boom produceert eetbare paarszwarte vruchten ter grootte van een erwt die aantrekkelijk zijn voor vogels. De schors is soms bedekt met wratachtige bobbels. De boom is makkelijk te kweken en wordt vaak geplant langs straten. |
