Note: Refers generally to comic books produced in Japan. Although the term manga is often used to refer to the Japanese form of animation known as anime and much anime has been based in manga, it is a separate art form. Manga themes include sports, romance, historical drama, comedy, soap operas, fantasy, mystery, sexuality, and horror. It is often produced in black and white, with the cover or the first few pages in color, with emphasis on exaggerated facial expressions and large eyes.

| Dutch ..... Verwijst in het algemeen naar Japanse stripverhalen. Men gebruikt de term ook voor Japanse animatiefilms, die ook wel animes worden genoemd. Veel animes zijn gebaseerd op manga's, maar het is een aparte kunstvorm. Manga's gaan onder meer over sport, liefde, seksualiteit en historische gebeurtenissen. Doorgaans zijn het een soort komedies, soapopera's of fantasy-, mystery- of horrorverhalen. Vaak zijn ze zwart-wit, met alleen de voorpagina of de eerste paar pagina's in kleur. Vaak worden de gezichtsuitdrukkingen van de personages overdreven weergegeven en de ogen relatief groot getekend. |
| German ..... Bezieht sich im Allgemeinen auf Comicbücher aus Japan. Obwohl der Ausdruck Manga häufig für die als Anime bekannte japanische Form des Animationsfilms verwendet wird und viele dieser Filme auf Manga beruhen, ist es eine eigene Kunstform. Zu den Manga-Motiven gehören Sport, Liebesgeschichte, historisches Drama, Komödie, Soap Opera, Fantasy, Mystery, Sex und Horror. Manga werden häufig in Schwarzweiß hergestellt, wobei das Cover oder die ersten Seiten farbig sind, mit deutlicher Hervorhebung übertriebener Gesichtsausdrücke und großer Augen. |
