Note: Carved wooden staffs of the Akan people of Africa. They are surmounted by carved finials of various figures, often covered in gold leaf, representing at least one proverbial saying. Held and displayed by the chief counselors of paramount chiefs at public events, they serve as the badges of office of those counselors and their proverbial subject matter refers to the continuity and political dominance of chief and state, the responsibilities of the chief, and the appropriate and wise behavior of the chief's subjects.

Dutch ..... Beeldgesneden houten staven van het Afrikaanse Akan-volk. Ze zijn bekroond met beeldgesneden fioelen van diverse figuren en zijn vaak met bladgoud bedekt; ze vertegenwoordigen ten minste één spreekwoord of gezegde. Tijdens publieke gebeurtenissen worden ze gedragen en getoond door de belangrijkste adviseurs van belangrijke stamhoofden, waarbij de staven fungeren als functieaanduiding van deze adviseurs; het spreekwoord of gezegde verwijst naar de continuïteit en politieke soevereiniteit van het stamhoofd en de staat, de verantwoordelijkheden van het stamhoofd, en het juist en verstandig handelen van diens onderdanen. 
Spanish ..... Bastones de madera tallados del pueblo de Akan en Africa. Están coronados por finales tallados de figuras varias, frecuentemente cubiertos por una lámina de oro, representan a lo menos un proverbio. Sostenido y exhibido por el canciller jefe de los jefes supremos en eventos públicos, ellos sirven como las insisnias del caro de esos cancilleres y el tema de los proverbios se refieren a la continuidad y dominio político del jefe y el estado, la responsabilidad del jefe, y el comportamiento apropiado y sabio de los temas de los jefes.
