Note: Brown pigment made from boiling the soot of wood. Because bister is transparent, it is frequently used in conjunction with pen and ink drawings as a wash. It is particularly common in drawings of the 17th and 18th centuries.

| Dutch ..... Bruin pigment, dat wordt vervaardigd door het roet van verbrand hout te koken. Omdat bister transparant is, wordt het vaak gebruikt als dunne laag over pen- en inkttekeningen. Het komt met name veel voor in tekeningen uit de 17de en 18de eeuw. |
