Note: Describes participants at The Bauhaus, founded in 1919 in the city of Weimar by German architect Walter Gropius (1883–1969). The term represents a kind of Bauhaus citizenship inclusive of faculty and students and reflects the idea of egalitarianism implicit in the institution. The term is not generally extended to those associated with the New Bauhaus in Chicago, with the exception of those associated with the original Bauhaus in Weimar, and later Dessau.
