Note: Trademarked name for a synthetic, layered clay composed of sodium magnesium lithium silicate. Combined with water, Laponite (TM) forms a gel used to stabilize emulsions in paints, cosmetics, and other industrial products. It is also used as a film forming agent to produce conductive, antistatic, and barrier coatings; and, in conservation, as a poulticing material for cleaning paper and stone and ceramic objects.

Wanneer het vermengd wordt met water, vormt Laponite (TM) een gel, waarmee emulsies in verf, cosmetica en andere industriële producten gestabiliseerd worden. Daarnaast wordt het gebruikt om geleidende, antistatische barrièredeklagen te maken, en, in de conserveringswetenschap, als kompresmateriaal om papieren, stenen en keramische objecten schoon te maken. |
