Note: A synthetic, permanent, stable white pigment prepared from precipitated barium sulfate (barite) since ca.1820s. The pure white powder is transparent when used as a filler or base for lake pigments. The reproducible whiteness of high purity led to its use in the standard white tiles for reflectance spectrophotometry.

| Dutch ..... Een synthetisch, permanent, stabiel wit pigment dat sinds de jaren twintig van de 19e eeuw wordt gemaakt van geprecipiteerd bariumsulfaat (bariet). Het zuivere witte poeder is transparant als het wordt gebruikt als vulmateriaal of als basis voor karmijnpigment. Door de reproduceerbaarheid van de zeer zuivere witheid wordt het gebruikt in de spectrofotometrie. |
