Note: Yellowish brown, lightweight seed-hair fiber obtained from the fruit of the species Ceiba pentandra. The highly inflammable, soft fibers have a smooth surface and are transparent. The fibers contain both lignin, a woody plant substance, and cellulose, a carbohydrate. Kapok is buoyant and will support up to 30 times its own weight. Although the fluffy fibers are too brittle to spin, they are used for filling mattresses, upholstery, life jackets, as insulation material, and as a substitute for absorbent cotton in surgery.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 取自木棉果實的黃棕色、輕質的種毛纖維，高度易燃且柔軟，具有光滑的表面，而且呈透明狀，成分包含木質素（木本植物的成分）與纖維素（一種碳水化合物）。木棉纖維具有浮力，且最多可支撐其自身30倍的重量。儘管這種蓬鬆的纖維太過脆弱而不適於紡織，但可用於填充床墊、襯墊物、救生衣、作為絕緣材料，也可用在外科手術中作為吸水棉花的替代物。 |
