Note: A natural organic colorant extracted from the roots of any of several species of the genus Rubia, having a reddish color. Madder has been used as a colorant for dyeing textiles since ancient times in India, Persia, and Egypt. It has been largely replaced as a dye and a pigment by synthetic alizarin. Used for dye and lake pigment preparation.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 一種天然有機的著色劑，提取自任一茜草屬的數種植物，略帶紅色。茜草色澱自古代的印度、波斯及埃及就被用作將紡織品染色的著色劑。其染料及顏料的功能已大部分被合成茜素所取代。用於染料及色澱的製備。 |
