Record Type: concept
khoi paper (<paper by form>, paper (fiber product), ... Materials (hierarchy name))

Note: Khoi paper is a Thai and Khmer paper made from the bark of the Streblus asper tree, with production documented in Thailand as early as the 15th century. Its primary use is for the samut khoi folding-book manuscript, where it is preferred over saa paper for its greater strength and resistance to yellowing, serving mainly secular rather than Buddhist literary purposes. Production involves a multi-stage process of drying, soaking, and steaming bark into pulp, which is then screened into sheets and dyed with either rice flour or charcoal to produce white or black pages.
