blades (stone tools) (cutting tools, cutting equipment, ... Furnishings and Equipment (hierarchy name)) |
|
Note: In the context of archaeology, this refers to Upper Paleolithic flint or obsidian tools, often used as projectile points, created by striking a long, narrow flake from a lithic core. Blades are distinguished from flakes in that they are twice as long as they are wide and have parallel sides and at least two ridges on the dorsal side. Blade production serves to define the transition from Middle to Upper Paleolithic. |
