Note: Devices or appliances intended to toast sandwiches, which are food items comprising two pieces of bread with meat or other fillings between. Sandwich toasters have two grills or heated elements that enclose or press the sandwich between them. Modern devices may be electric. Designs for manual use resemble tongs; the earliest examples were cast-iron clamps with long handles that could be plunged into a kitchen fireplace or outdoor camp fire.

| Dutch ..... Apparaten of toestellen bedoeld om broodjes of tosti's te roosteren. Tosti's zijn twee stukken brood met vulling ertussen, meestal kaas. Tosti-ijzers hebben twee grills of verwarmde elementen die de sandwich of tosti omsluiten of samendrukken. Moderne apparaten kunnen elektrisch zijn. Ontwerpen voor handmatig gebruik lijken op tangen; de vroegste voorbeelden waren gietijzeren klemmen met lange handvaten die in een open keukenhaard of kampvuur buiten kunnen worden gelegd. |
