Note: One of two long-lived species of bristlecone pine (the other is Pinus aristata) that grow at high altitudes in the Western U.S. Pinus longaeva lives longer than any other tree. Dendrochronological studies have produced a continuous tree-ring sequence back to 6700 BC for a sample in the White Mountains of California. Like other bristlecone pines, its cones have long curving spines on each scale.

| Dutch ..... Een van de twee zeer lang levende soorten dennenboom (de andere is Pinus aristata) die groeien op grote hoogte in het westen van de Verenigde Staten. Pinus longaeva leeft langer dan alle andere boomsoorten. Dendrochronologisch onderzoek heeft een ononderbroken reeks boomringen opgeleverd die teruggaat tot 6700 v.Chr. voor een exemplaar uit de White Mountains in Californië. Net zoals bij andere zogeheten 'bristlecone pines' hebben de dennenappels van deze soort lange, kromme stekels op elke schub. |
