Note: Genus having approximately 30 species native to the Northern Hemisphere. A few species are ornamental and shade trees, among the most graceful of deciduous trees, with heart-shaped, coarsely toothed leaves; fragrant cream-colored flowers; and small globular fruit hanging from a narrow leafy bract. This genus was placed in the family Tiliaceae, but genetic research resulted in its being placed in Malvaceae. They are generally, but not always, called "lime" in Britain and "linden" or "basswood" in North America.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 具有近30個種，原生於北半球。有一些為觀賞與遮蔭樹種，為最優雅的落葉喬木之一，具有邊緣粗略呈鋸齒狀的心形葉片，與含香氣的奶油色花朵；小型的球狀果實從狹長多葉的苞片懸掛而下。本屬過去屬於田麻科，但遺傳學研究證明其應歸入錦葵科。在英國通常被稱為「歐椴樹」（Lime），北美洲稱為「椴樹」（linden）或「菩提樹」（basswood），但也有例外。 |
| Dutch ..... Genus van ongeveer 30 soorten die inheems zijn op het noordelijk halfrond. Enkele soorten gebruikt men als sierbomen of schaduwbomen. Behoort tot de elegantste loofbomen, met hartvormige en grofgetande bladeren, geurige crèmekleurige bloemen en kleine bolvormige vruchten die aan smalle bracteeën hangen. Dit genus bracht men vroeger onder in de familie Tiliaceae, maar genetisch onderzoek heeft ertoe geleid dat het tegenwoordig wordt beschouwd als een genus van Malvaceae. |
