The bark of mature trees is commonly orange- to red- brown and of stringy texture, often flaking or peeling in vertical strips, but smooth, scaly or hard and square-cracked in some species.

| Dutch ..... Familie van coniferen die circa 30 genera (waarvan 17 monotypisch) en 140 soorten omvat, met wereldwijde verspreiding. Het betreft eenhuizige, semi-tweehuizige of soms tweehuizige bomen en heesters met een hoogte van 1-116 m. De schors van volwassen bomen is meestal oranjebruin tot roodbruin, met een vezelige structuur, die vaak afbladdert in verticale stroken. Bij sommige soorten is de schors evenwel glad, geschubd en met vierkante barsten. |
