Note: Mosaics made from hundreds or thousands of tiny tesserae, typically of opaque glass. Often used to create pictures, jewelry, plaques, small boxes, and tabletops. Made from the 16th century to the present in Rome and elsewhere. The term was coined by British collector Sir Arthur Gilbert (1913-2001) in the mid-20th century.

| Dutch ..... Mozaïeken gemaakt van duizenden kleine mozaïekblokjes, meestal van ondoorzichtig glas, die worden gebruikt om afbeeldingen te maken, vaak naar beroemde kunstwerken of van ruïnes, op voorwerpen als juwelen, plaquettes, kleine doosjes en tafelbladen. Worden sinds de 16de eeuw gemaakt, voornamelijk in Rome in de 19de eeuw. De term werd halverwege de 20ste eeuw bedacht door de Britse verzamelaar Sir Arthur Gilbert (1913-2001). |

Mosaicos hechos de miles de delgadas teselas, generalmente de vidrio opaco, usado para crear pinturas, frecuentemente de famosas obras de arte o escenas de ruinas, en objetos como joyas, placas, pequeñas cajas y tableros de mesas. Hechos desde el siglo XVI hasta el presente, fueron producidos sobre todo en Roma en el siglo XIX. El término fue acuñado por el coleccionista británico Sir Arthur Gilbert (1913-2001) a mediados del siglo XX. |
