Note: A term is a word or group of words representing a single concept; a vocabulary record comprises terms and other information, including relationships, scope note, sources, etc. Additionally, in the jargon of thesaurus construction, the word term is often used as shorthand to actually refer to the concept that is represented by that term (for example, BT and NT actually refer to the relationships between concepts). The distinction between a term in the strict sense and term meaning a record must often be inferred from the context of the discussion.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Een term is een woord of frase waarmee een enkel concept wordt aangeduid; een record in een vocabulaire omvat termen en andere informatie, waaronder verbanden, een scope note, bronnen etc. Daarnaast wordt in het jargon van een thesaurus het woord 'term' veelal kortweg gebruikt om te verwijzen naar het concept dat met die term wordt aangeduid (zo verwijzen 'broader term' en 'narrower term' strikt genomen naar de verbanden tussen concepten). Het onderscheid tussen een term in de nauwe betekenis en een term waarmee eigenlijk een record wordt bedoeld, moet uit de context worden opgemaakt.
