Note: Order containing more than 18,000 species of monocotyledons (flowering plants having a single seed leaf). The order consists of several lineages that have traditionally been recognized as groups, the members of which have often migrated from one group to another. The major groups included in Poales are the grass group (families Poaceae, Restionaceae, Anarthriaceae, Centrolepidaceae, Ecdeiocoleaceae, Flagellariaceae, and Joinvilleaceae), the cattail group (families Typhaceae and Sparganiaceae), and the sedge group (Juncaceae, Cyperaceae, and Thurniaceae). In addition, Poales includes families Xyridaceae, Eriocaulaceae, Bromeliaceae, Mayacaceae, and Rapateaceae.

| Dutch ..... Orde van meer dan 18.000 soorten monocotyledonen (bloeiende planten met één zaadlob aan de kiem). De orde bevat verschillende types die traditioneel werden erkend als groepen. Vaak zijn soorten van de ene groep overgeplaatst naar de andere. De grootste groepen van Poales zijn die van de grassen (met de families Poaceae, Restionaceae, Anarthriaceae, Centrolepidaceae, Ecdeiocoleaceae, Flagellariaceae en Joinvilleaceae), de kattenstaarten (met de families Typhaceae en Sparganiaceae) en de cypergrassen (Juncaceae, Cyperaceae en Thurniaceae).
