Note: The skin of an adult female deer, leather made from which was used in early bookbinding. For the soft, suede-like leather made from the flesh split of kidskin, sheepskin, or goatskin, use "doeskin (leather)." For leather made from doeskin (skin), combine "doeskin (skin)" + "leather."

Additional Notes:

Dutch ..... De huid van een volwassen vrouwtjeshert, waarvan leer werd gemaakt dat werd gebruikt voor de vroege boekbinderij. Gebruik 'wildleer' voor het zachte suèdeachtige leer dat wordt gemaakt van de vleessplit van huid van schapen of (jonge) geiten. Gebruik 'hertenleer (vrouwtjeshert)' voor leer gemaakt van hertenhuid (vrouwtjeshert).

Spanish ..... Piel de un ciervo hembra adulto. El cuero que se fabrica con ella fue utilizado antiguamente en encuadernación. Para el cuero suave semejante al ante que se fabrica con la piel separada de la cabritilla, piel de ovino o de caprino, use "ante (cuero)." Para el cuero fabricado con ante (piel), combinar "ante (piel)" + "cuero."
