Note: Refers to perspective depicted by using a single vanishing point. The technique was codified by the Renaissance artist and theoretician, Leon Battista Alberti, who described a visual pyramid, the vertex of which is in the viewer's eye. The illusion of recession into space is produced by parallel lines converging at one vanishing point, which was usually at or near the center of the composition and was at that time called the "centric point." Alberti described how to determine the correct intervals for horizontal lines at progressively deeper positions in space, and how to draw objects and figures to the correct scale for their position in space.

Deze techniek werd gesystematiseerd door de Renaissance-kunstenaar en theoreticus, Leon Battista Alberti, die een visuele piramide beschreef, waarvan de top zich in het oog van de kijker bevindt. De illusie van terugwijking in de ruimte wordt gecreëerd doordat parallelle lijnen samenkomen in één verdwijnpunt, dat zich gewoonlijk in of vlakbij het centrum van de compositie bevond en dat het 'centrale punt' werd genoemd. Alberti beschreef hoe men de juiste intervallen kon bepalen voor horizontale lijnen op steeds diepere posities in de ruimte, en hoe men voorwerpen en figuren op de juiste schaal kon tekenen ten opzichte van hun positie in de ruimte. |
