Note: Native American fighting hatchets used for striking blows and for throwing, consisting of a short wooden shaft and a head, originally of stone, later of metals such as iron and steel, with a blade usually narrow in proportion to its length. They were also used as tools, and sometimes combined with a tobacco pipe, the bowl being on the back of the blade. North American troops of colonial times and later often carried them in place of swords.

Chinese (traditional) ..... 美洲原住民的短柄小斧,用來敲擊或投擲,是由一支短木柄和一個斧頂所組成,斧頂原本為石質,後來則以鐵和鋼等金屬所製成,斧刃通常較窄。亦可當作工具使用,有時與煙斗結合使用,煙斗放置煙草的部分就在斧刃的背面。北美洲殖民時期以及之後的部隊,經常攜帶此類戰斧以替代劍。 
Dutch ..... Kleine bijlen, bestaande uit een korte houten steel en een kop, oorspronkelijk van steen en later van metalen als ijzer en staal, met een kling die meestal smal is in verhouding tot de lengte ervan; gebruikt door Amerikaanse Indianen voor het toedienen van slagen en om mee te gooien. Soms ook als werktuig gebruikt en soms gecombineerd met een tabakspijp waarbij de kom zich op de achterkant van het blad bevindt. 
German ..... Kampfbeil der amerikanischen Ureinwohner zum Schlagen und Werfen, bestehend aus einem kurzen Holzstiel und einem Kopf, der ursprünglich aus Stein, später aus Metallen wie Eisen oder Stahl gefertigt war, sowie einer Klinge, die in der Regel im Verhältnis zu ihrer Länge schmal war. Der Tomahawk wurde auch als Werkzeug verwendet und manchmal mit einer Tabakspfeife kombiniert, wobei sich der Pfeifenkopf auf der Rückseite des Klingenblattes befand. Nordamerikanische Truppen der Kolonialzeit und später trugen Tomahawks oft an Stelle von Schwertern. 
Spanish ..... Hachetas norteamericanas de combate usadas para proporcionar golpes o lanzarlas, consistentes en una vara corta de madera y una cabeza, originariamente de piedra, luego de metales como el hierro y el acero, con una hoja generalmente angosta en proporción a su largo. También se usaban como herramientas, y algunas veces combinadas con una pipa de tabaco, quedando la cazuela al dorso de la hoja. Las tropas norteamericanas en tiempos de la colonia y posteriores a menudo las llevaban en lugar de espadas.
