Note: Refers to the style and period most evident during the 11th and 12th centuries in western Europe. The style flourished in architecture with the new growth of cities and the accompanying churches, and the rebuilding of monasteries. The style is noted for regional differences, but overall is characterized by the influence and interpretation of Roman and succeeding architecture, great size, round arches, masonry vaults, and innovations in structure to provide adequate illumination. The style also developed in monumental relief sculpture, stained glass, book illumination, mural painting, ivory carving, and precious metalwork, and is characterized by flat, stylized forms, and richly detailed ornament.

| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar de stijl en de periode die in West-Europa de boventoon voerde in de 11e en 12e eeuw. De stijl floreerde in de architectuur met de nieuwe groei van de steden, de bijbehorende kerken en de wederopbouw van kloosters. De stijl heeft kenmerkende regionale verschillen, maar over het algemeen wordt het gekarakteriseerd door de invloed en de interpretatie van de Romeinse en daaropvolgende bouwkunst. De grote omvang, ronde bogen, gewelven van metselwerk en innovaties in de constructie om voldoende verlichting te bieden. De stijl ontwikkelde zich ook in monumentale reliëfsculpturen, glas-in- lood, boekverluchting, muurschildering, ivoor-snijwerk en kostbaar metaalwerk. Het wordt gekenmerkt door vlakke gestileerde vormen, en de zeer gedetailleerde ornamenten. Periode 950-1250. |

O estilo floresceu na arquitetura com o novo crescimento das cidades e as igrejas que as acompanhavam, e a reconstrução dos mosteiros. O estilo é marcado pelas diferenças regionais, mas no geral é caracterizado pela influência e interpretação da arquitetura romana e sucessiva, grandes dimensões, arcos redondos, abóbadas de alvenaria e inovações na estrutura para fornecer iluminação adequada. O estilo também se desenvolveu na escultura em relevo monumental, vitrais, iluminação de livros, pintura mural, escultura em marfim e trabalhos em metal precioso, e é caracterizado por formas planas e estilizadas e ornamentos ricamente detalhados. |

El estilo floreció en arquitectura con el nuevo crecimiento de ciudades y por lo tanto, de iglesias y la reconstrucción de los monasterios. El estilo es conocido por las diferencias regionales, pero en conjunto se caracteriza por la influencia e interpretación de la arquitectura romana y subsiguientes, el gran tamaño, los arcos redondos, bóvedas y las innovaciones en estructura para proporcionar una iluminación adecuada.
