Note: Medieval European weapons consisting of a long staff of wood, from about 6 to 9 feet in length and round in section, often tipped with iron at both ends; they were wielded with both hands, one hand holding the middle and the other grasping the staff at one quarter of the whole length from the end. They were especially popular as civilian weapons in England. For weapons used for ceremonial purposes, use "ceremonial staffs." |

Dutch ..... Middeleeuwse Europese wapens die bestaan uit een lange staf van hout, tussen de 1,80 en 2,70 m lang met een ronde doorsnede, vaak aan beide uiteinden afgezet met ijzer; ze werden gehanteerd met beide handen, waarbij de ene hand in het midden werd geplaatst en de andere de staf vasthield op een kwart van de totale lengte van de staf. Ze waren vooral populair als wapens bij Engelse burgers. |
Spanish ..... Armas medievales europeas que consisten en una larga asta de madera, de aproximadamente 6 a 9 pies de longitud y de sección redonda, a menudo con puntas de hierro en ambos extremos; se blandían con ambas manos, una mano tomándola del medio y la otra agarrando el asta a un cuarto del largo total desde el extremo inferior. Fueron especialmente populares como armas civiles en Inglaterra. |
