Note: Wood of the trees belonging to the Acacia genus, native to tropical and subtropical regions of the world, mostly Australia. Historically the term has been used to refer to wood of genera other than Acacia as well, especially trees of genera Vachellia and Senegalia. The strong, elastic, hardwood is used for furniture, walking sticks, and tool handles.

| Dutch ..... Geslacht van groenblijvende bomen en struiken die voornamelijk te vinden zijn in Australië. Verschillende commerciële producten worden geproduceerd door deze bomen. Tot 2005 werden ongeveer 1300 soorten gevonden in Australië, Europa, Afrika, Zuid-Azië en de Amerika's ingedeeld in dit geslacht. Het geslacht is sindsdien verdeeld in 5 geslachten, met de naam Acacia voorbehouden voor de Australische soorten en een klein aantal in tropisch Azië, Madagascar, en de Pacific Islands. De meeste soorten buiten Australië behoren nu tot Vachellia en Senegalia, met kleine aantallen soorten geplaatst in geslachten Acaciella en Mariosousa. |
