Note: Refers to the largest of a ships' boats during the 19th and 20th centuries, typically heavily built, beamy, and carvel-planked, originally used for carrying cargo and men and usually 16 feet to 34 feet in length, with a beam about one-third the length, and with a relatively straight stem and square stern; has come to be used for motorized small boats of the same general size and shape. When referring to the largest ships' boats of the 18th century and earlier, use "longboats."

| Dutch ..... Te gebruiken voor de grootste scheepsboten van de 19e en 20e eeuw, kenmerkend zwaar, breed en van karveelbouw. Ze werden oorspronkelijk gebruikt om vracht en mensen te vervoeren, zijn meestal zo'n 5 tot 10 m lang, waarvan de breedte van de boot ongeveer één derde van de lengte is, en hebben een relatief recht voorsteven en vierkant achtersteven. Term wordt steeds meer gebruikt voor kleine gemotoriseerde bootjes van ongeveer dezelfde grootte en vorm. Gebruik 'barkassen' voor de grootste boten uit de 18e en daarvoor. |
| German ..... Bezieht sich auf das größte Beiboot während des 19. Jahrhunderts und 20. Jahrhunderts, typischerweise klobig, wuchtig und kraweelgebaut; ursprünglich genutzt für die Beförderung von Fracht und Mannschaft und gewöhnlich fünf bis zehn Meter lang mit einer Bootsbreite von einem Drittel der Länge sowie mit einem relativ geraden Vorsteven und eckigem Achtersteven; die Bezeichnung wird auch benutzt für motorisierte, kleine Boote mit weitgehend gleicher Form und Größe.
Wenn Bezug genommen wird auf das größte Beiboot des 18. Jahrhunderts oder früher, siehe "Langboot". |

Úsese para el bote de barco más grande durante los siglos XIX y XX, de construcción típicamente fuerte, con viga, de entablado tallado, originalmente utilizado para transportar carga y hombres; por lo general, tenía de 16 a 32 pies de longitud, con una viga en torno a un tercio de la longitud, y con una proa relativamente recta y una popa cuadrada. Se ha llegado ha utilizar para botes pequeños motorizados del mismo tamaño y forma. Cuando se hace referencia al bote de barco más grande del siglo XVIII y anterior, use "falúa”. |
