The impact of Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci on art and research at the Getty extends well beyond the two sheets of drawings in the Museum’s collection. This program, marking the 500th anniversary of his death, offers insights into Leonardo's work and influence. Davide Gasparotto, senior curator of paintings, gives an overview of Leonardo's career and his significance for the development of Italian Renaissance painting. Sue Ann Chui, associate conservator of paintings, describes a recent study and treatment of a painting from the workshop of Leonardo. Julian Brooks, senior curator of drawings, discusses the Getty drawings in particular, placing them in the context of Leonardo's draftsmanship.
