Sloan Foundation/Internet Archive
Digital Access to Cultural Collections
Grant Period: December 2006–June 2008
This project addressed the important need to bring Getty Research Institute collections online, and was funded as part of a larger grant supporting the digitization of book collections and research materials.
The Research Institute, the Boston Public Library, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Johns Hopkins University Libraries, and the Bancroft Library of the University of California, Berkeley digitized over one million books from their respective collections. The Research Institute digitized 5,231 books, selecting a subset of titles that represent the library's depth of reference and primary materials in the history of art and architecture.
All digitized books and materials were made available on the Internet Archive, a nonprofit digital library that provides permanent access to historical collections online.
