City Plan of Palmyra
Louis-François Cassas used sophisticated surveying techniques to produce an accurate plan of the ruins of Palmyra as he experienced them. Showing the site’s condition prior to archaeological excavations or reconstruction, this plan excludes major features of the ancient city, such as the theater. These images by Cassas and Vignes represent Palmyra as it was for over a thousand years, before these modern interventions.
