The Greek island of Kythera provides unique insight about life in the ancient world over a span of 7,000 years, from the Minoan Bronze Age through the Roman period and beyond. Archaeologist Cyprian Broodbank presents highlights of a twenty-year exploration by the Kythera Island Project of this Aegean island's landscapes that reveal a rich yet complex history of trade and power networks. He shares recent discoveries from this summer's investigation of the city of ancient Kythera using state-of-the-art survey tools, and tells how new methods are transforming the ways archaeologists investigate sites in and beyond the Mediterranean.

About Cyprian Broodbank
Cyprian Broodbank is the John Disney Professor of Archaeology and Director of the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research at Cambridge University, England. From 1994 to 2014 he was based at the University College London's Institute of Archaeology, where he became professor of Mediterranean archaeology. His current research embraces Mediterranean archaeology and history, comparative island archaeology, and archaeology as deep global history. He also co-directs a large-scale landscape archaeology project on the Greek island of Kythera.
