Maria Sibylla Merian & Daughters: Women of Art and Science
through August 31
The Getty Center
See extraordinary illustrations of flowers and insects by 17th-century German artist Maria Sibylla Merian, a pioneer in art and science at a time when both fields were dominated by men. Chart her adventures, from her studies of insects while still a girl through her daring move to South America at age 52 to conduct field studies for The Insects of Suriname, one of the greatest illustrated natural history books of all time.

Also on display are spectacular insect specimens, including a large Morpho butterfly in its various stages of metamorphosis.

Director Stephen Wadsworth presents Aeschylus' explosive drama, which dissects how a family turns the violence of war in on itself. Agamemnon is the third annual classical play in the Outdoor Classical Theater. Tickets $38; $32 students/seniors. Previews $15.

Get off the blacktop and onto the hilltop for this no-holds-barred Friday night featuring gallery browsing, ice-cold cocktails, and raging, maxed-out party music with bonus light show from Baltimore DJ Dan Deacon. Free; no reservations required.

Gallery programs—Enjoy hands-on creative activities with our hour-long gallery programs, Art Odyssey at the Getty Villa and Art Adventures at the Getty Center. And take a midweek artistic nibble with 30-minute Art Stops at the Getty Center.

Art-making—Create your own masterpiece with our drop-in workshops, ArtQuest at the Getty Villa and Family Art Lab at the Getty Center.

Admission to the Getty Villa is always FREE. A ticket is required. Each Villa ticket allows you to bring up to three children ages 15 and under with you in one car. Please note that this does not apply to tickets for events, such as lectures and performances. Check current ticket availability online or call (310) 440-7300. Ticket availability is updated weekly for a two-month period. Same-day tickets may also become available online without advance notice. Groups of 15 or more must make reservations by phone. Parking is $15, but FREE for evening events after 5:00 p.m.
