TimeScape Room at the Getty Villa
Learn about ancient art and culture in the TimeScape Room, an interactive educational space where you can dig deep into the artistic traditions of ancient Greece, Rome, and Etruria. The TimeScape Room complements the Villa's theme-based permanent collection galleries with multimedia presentations that show how art in the ancient world evolved over time, and how it developed across the Mediterranean region. Here's what you'll find:
  • The wall-sized timeline in the TimeScape Room explores the interconnected histories of Greece, Rome, and Etruria.
  • An interactive digital map in which you can follow the changing face of the ancient Mediterranean over time
  • In-depth explorations of works of art with audio, which illuminate style in ancient Greek, Roman, and Etruscan art.
  • A touchable three-dimensional model representing how material remains of civilizations build up over time in the earth (an archaeological stratigraphy)
  • GettyGuide stations that enable visitors to explore the collection in depth through a range of interactive multimedia tools. Learn more about GettyGuide.

Bringing your students to the Villa?
The TimeScape Room is a great place to orient students at all levels to the complex histories of ancient Greece, Rome, and Etruria. Interactive components can be explored by students on their own or in small groups. If you bring your class to the TimeScape Room, please limit group size to 15 or fewer students.
