Allegories of Wisdom and Diligence

Allegorical figures of Patience and Industry stand on either side of an empty circular reserve. At left, the small cherub representing patience holds a shield and a spear. A head, perhaps that of Pallas Athena (goddess of learning and the arts), decorates his shield. Another boy at right, signifying industry, holds a spade, some ears of wheat, and a shield decorated with an industrious spider at the center of a web.
