Master of the Lee Hours

Datesactive about 1450 - 1470

The Master of the Lee Hours is an anonymous artist who takes his name from his contribution to a book of hours once in the collection of Ronald Lee, originally illuminated for duke Charles the Bold of Burgundy and his wife Isabelle of Bourbon. This artist in the circle of Willem Vrelant copied and imitated the work of a range of contemporary illuminators, including the Master of Guillebert de Mets, while operating a workshop of his own. His work is known in at least four books of hours and is characterized by a varied palette and loose brushwork.
