Note: Bishop and saint from Asia Minor; born in the Roman Empire, to a Greek family. In 325, he was one of many bishops to answer the request of Constantine and appear at the First Council of Nicaea. The historical Saint Nicholas is revered among Catholic and Orthodox Christians, as well as in various Anglican and Lutheran churches. Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of children, sailors, merchants, archers, thieves, and students. He was active in Myra (now Demre); part of his skeleton was taken to Bari, Italy as holy relics.
