Haefeli, Max Ernst (Swiss architect, furniture designer, and writer, 1901-1976)

Note: Max Ernst Haefeli studied architecture at the Eidgenössischen Technischen Hochschule in Zurich from 1919 to 1923 and worked in Otto Bartning's studio in Berlin, also in 1923. He joined his father's firm Pfleghard & Haefeli (Zurich, Switzerland) in 1924. He quickly established his own architectural firm in Zurich in either 1925 or 1926. From ca. 1928 to ca. 1933, Haefeli was a member of the architectural team responsible for Werkbundsiedlung Neubühl (Zurich, Switzerland). He designed the Typ LM Etagenwohnungnen (Type LM apartment house) and Typ O Etagenwohnungen, Garagen (Type O double houses and garages) and assisted Hans Schmidt and Werner Moser with the window and door designs for unspecified buildings from 1928 to 1929. In 1931 Haefeli, Sigfried Giedion, Werner Max Moser, Carl Hubacher, Emil Roth and Rudolf Steiger were commissioned by the Schweizerischen Werkbund to decorate model houses and apartments (Wohnaustellung) at the Werkbundsiedlung Neubühl. Haefeli also designed furniture for the model apartments (Wohnaustellung) and in 1933 he once again decorated the interiors of Werkbundsiedlung Neubühl. In 1937, Haefeli established the architectural firm HMS (Zurich, Switzerland) with Rudolf Steiger and Werner Moser. Swiss architect, Zurich.
