Record Type: Person
Shepherd, Charles (English photographer, active mid- to late 19th century in India)

Note: In 1862, Charles Shepherd and Arthur Robertson formed a partnership called "Shepherd & Robertson" in Agra, India. In 1864, the firm moved to Simla and Samuel Bourne joined the business. It is perhaps at this point that the firm changed its name to "Howard, Shepherd & Bourne" which operated until 1870. Ca. 1868, Bourne & Shepherd was formed in Simla, India. The partnership of Samuel Bourne and Charles Shepherd had a second branch in Calcutta. In 1870, Samuel Bourne returned to England and was replaced as head photographer in 1872, by Colin Murray. Charles Shepherd left the firm in 1885. The firm still operates in Calcutta, India.
