Record Type: Person
Clavel, Gilbert (Swiss poet and art critic, 1883-1927)

Note: Active in the Italian Futurist movement; devoted to visual and performing arts as well as writing. The Swiss-born Egyptologist and writer was a peripheral member of Diaghilev’s circle, through whom he met Depero. He asked Depero to illustrate his book of black humor, "Un istituto per suicidi" (Rome, 1918). Depero worked with Clavel on the choreography of his Teatro Plastico. He is best remembered now for a residence that he built for himself from a ruined tower in Positano.
