Gomide, Antonio Gonćalves (Brazilian painter and designer, 1895-1967)

Note: Brazilian painter. He moved to Geneva with his family in 1913, where he studied at the Fine Arts School and met Sergio Milliet at the Business School. From 1924 to 1926, he held a studio and Paris and kept contacts with some European artists belonging to the vanguard movement, who turned to be a major influence. He definitely moved to Brazil in 1932 and entered the Sociedade Pró-Arte Moderna and the Clube dos Artistas Modernos. His work then starts emphasizing national themes, by bringing together abstract shapes and indigenous patterns or landscapes.

Additional Notes:
Portuguese ..... Pintor brasileiro. Mudou-se para Genebra com sua família em 1913, onde estudou na Escola de Belas Artes e conhece Sergio Milliet na Escola de Comércio. Entre 1924 e 1926 fixa um ateliê em Paris e passa a conviver com artistas europeus expoentes do movimento de vanguarda, de quem recebe grande influência. Muda-se para o Brasil definitivamente em 1932 e passa a atuar na fundação da Sociedade Pró-Arte Moderna e no Clube dos Artistas Modernos. Sua obra passa a enfatizar temas nacionais e alia formas abstratas a motivos indígenas ou de paisagens.
