|
Note: Department store, fabric and furniture manufacturer. Metz and Co. began ca. 1740 as a fabric store in Amsterdam by Samuel Moses Metz. The name Metz & Co. was established ca. 1800. In 1913-1981, the company was active in The Hague. From 1973, it has been part of the Liberty organization. In the 1930s, Metz and Co. commissioned J.J.P. Oud to design chairs which the company manufactured. Metz & Co. built the furniture designed by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld for one of the dwellings of Vier woningen (Utrecht, Netherlands : Erasmuslaan 5-11) which was also designed by Rietveld in collaboration with Truss Schröder-Schräder and built in 1931. |
