Yi Chŏng (Korean painter, 1541-after 1625)
|
Note: Middle Chosŏn period poet, calligrapher, and renowned bamboo painter. He was the great-great grandson of King Sejong. His early work shows the influence of painters of the Chinese Yuan period, but he soon incorporated elements of the more contemporary Ming style. He emphasized depth by painting background subjects in lighter ink tones. He was influential in bringing a rhythmic, more graphic style to Korean painting of the period. |
