Saint-Morys, Etienne Bourgevin Vialart, comte de (French collector, 1772-1817)
|
Note: Son of the major drawings collector Charles-Paul-Jean-Baptiste de Bourgevin Vialart de Saint-Morys, he fled the revolution with his father in 1790 and seems to have lived in exile mainly in London until he returned to France in 1804. Although most of his father's collection was seized and is now at the Louvre, part of the collection was removed to London and he must have inherited part of this when his father died in 1795. Both father and son seem to have used the name "Carriere" while in London, which was one of their French titles. Etienne is probably the one selling in 1797 under the name "Count de Carriere" and "Comte de Carriere" and may have also been buying under the name Carriere. He was killed in a duel in 1817. |
