Baekgi (Korean painter and monk, active second half of 17th to first half of 18th century)
|
Note: Baekgi was active as a monk-painter around the area of Banryongsa (temple) in Wonju in Gangwon-do (province) from the late seventeenth to the first half of the eighteenth century. He created "Three Bodhisattvas" for Guryongsa in Wonju in 1727 as a head monk-painter. In addition to the production of Buddhist paintings, he participated in the construction of royal tombs and the regilding of Buddhist sculptures. Along with the court painters Jang Jahyeong and Choi Sueok, Baekgi was selected as a painter for adorning the tombs of King Danjong (r. 1452-1455) and the consort of Crown Prince Sohyeon. |
