Note: The architectural firm I. M. Pei & Partners was founded in New York City in 1955 by Ieoh Ming Pei, Henry Cobb and Eason H. Leonard. They were joined by general partners James I. Freed, Leonard Jacobson and Werner Wandelmaier. In 1989 the firm was renamed Pei Freed Cobb & Partners. The Dictionary of Art indicates that I. M. Pei founded his own firm in 1955. CCALAD, ContArch and Post indicate that I. M. Pei & Partners was founded in 1955. Wiseman indicates that the firm was founded in 1955 as I. M. Pei & Associates and that they worked for Webb & Knapp until 1960 when they separated to become an autonomous firm and changed name in 1966 to I. M. Pei & Partners. Macmillan indicates that I. M. Pei worked as the head of the architectural division of Webb and Knapp until 1960, when he resigned to found his own architectural office. I. M. Pei & Partners and Page & Steele Architects were commissioned by Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce to design the office buildings Commerce Court West, Commerce Court South and Commerce Court East which formed part of the multipurpose building Commerce Court (Toronto, Canada) ca. 1972. American architectural firm, New York, N.Y., 1955-1989; on Sept. 1, 1989 name changed to Pei Cobb Freed & Partners.
