Jopling, J. (English or Canadian engineer and draftsman, active late 19th century )
|
Note: Jopling was employed by the City Engineers Office (London, England or Toronto, Ontario, Canada). He was probably an Associate Member of the Institute of Civil Engineers in Britain. Jopling, who was the draughtsman for the drawings DR1990:0056-DR1990:0058, probably also designed the depicted welcome arches. These three arches, possibly alternative proposals, were to commemorate the visit of the Duke of Argyll and his wife, Princess Louise to Toronto in September 1879 on the occasion of the First Annual Exhibition of the Industrial Exhibition Association (now the Canadian National Exhibition). |
