Pecci Blunt, Anna Laetitia (Italian aristocrat, collector, 1885-1971)
|
Note: Anna Laetitia Pecci-Blunt, the grand-niece to Pope Leo XIII (Vincenzo Gioacchino Pecci), was born in Rome in 1885. After World War I, she moved to Paris, where she soon immersed herself in artistic and intellectual circles. She became friends with Georges Braque and Jean Cocteau, and married in 1919 the wealthy and cultured American banker Cécil Blunt. The couple opened their home in Paris to writers, artists and musicians including Salvador Dalì, Cocteau, Paul Valéry, Francis Poulenc and Paul Claudel. Their Palazzo in Piazza Aracoeli in Rome, acquired in 1929, also became a cultural hub, as Pecci-Blunt asserted herself as an important patron of the arts. She developed a collection of prints, published works, drawings and paintings thematically focused upon the city of Rome. |
